Metropolitan Animal Emergency and Specialty Center is the Greater Washington Metropolitan area’s pet care answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We combine the passionate care you are accustomed to from your primary care veterinarian with the precision and effectiveness of emergency veterinary care requires.
We have been successfully and compassionately operating since 1976. As one of the oldest and best known 24-hour emergency animal hospitals in the country, we are a part of the community and share in its history.
Rest assured, we are on stand by for you and your pet, around the clock. Whether it is emergency veterinary services your pet needs or post-incident monitoring and care, the staff at Metropolitan Emergency & Specialty Center has dedicated itself to bringing the wag back to your dog’s tail and the purr back to your cat’s meow.
We combine the passionate care you’re accustomed to from your primary care veterinarian with the precision and effectiveness that emergency veterinary care requires in emergency, diagnostic, surgical, and specialized intensive care services.
As pet parents, we dread the thought of our fur-children ever getting sick enough to require emergency care. Unfortunately, accidents and illnesses do occur, so our exceptional emergency care teams are here to help in your time of need.
Surgery covers a vast sub-sect of veterinary medicine, from routine spay and neuter to complex orthopedic and soft tissue procedures. Within our Thrive Pet Healthcare network, you can access surgical services on both the primary care and specialty level so whatever your pet’s surgical needs, our trusted veterinarians and surgical specialists are here for you.
It's hard to provide care without knowing the root of what is ailing your pet, which is why diagnostic testing is so important. Diagnostic testing can include laboratory testing (blood, urine, and fecal) and diagnostic imaging like X–rays, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
We will be by your side during this time of need to offer both medical assistance and emotional support.

Dr. Yang’s interest in veterinary medicine began after she graduated from James Madison University where she studied psychology. While she had pets growing up, she became intrigued with veterinary medicine when she adopted her own dog after undergraduate school. After shadowing a mixed animal practice near Harrisonburg, VA, she gained experience working in the field first starting as a kennel assistant at a general practice to eventually working full time as a surgical assistant in a busy veterinary surgical practice in Northern Virginia. During this time, she went back to school to earn her pre-requisites to apply for veterinary schools while working full time. She was accepted then graduated from Kansas State School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. She finished a 1-year rotating internship at Purdue University Veterinary Medical Hospital. During this year, she found her love for emergency medicine. After her internship, she worked in a large veterinary emergency and specialty center outside of Baltimore, MD then found her home at Metropolitan Animal Emergency Center in 2015. MAEC has allowed her to pursue her passion for emergency medicine where she enjoys the varying, challenging cases that present to the clinic. Her goals are to help clients navigate and understand the often stressful and emotional experience of having a pet emergency. Her interests are in trauma surgery, pain management, and managing critical cases. She lives in Annapolis, MD with her wife (who is expecting their second child in early 2023), daughter, terrier mix (Indy), and cats (Gomez and Bacon). She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, watching action/adventure movies, and traveling.

I was born and raised in Lake Grove, New York. Growing up we had multiple dogs, horses, guinea pigs, fish and birds. My love for animals comes from my mother, who never met an animal she didn't like. My pets were part of our family and showed me the importance of the human-animal bond.
After high school I completed a certified veterinary technician program and became a licensed vet tech. I worked in small animal emergency, general practice and surgery as a technician.
Later on, I worked for several years in genomic research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Concurrently I continued to advance my studies. I graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in chemistry. I earned my DVM from the University of Florida in 2013. I spent a year in a rotating equine surgery and medicine internship. After my internship I decided my interests lie primarily in small animal medicine and I was happiest working with dogs and cats. I spent a year working in a shelter before coming back to emergency medicine, where I have remained ever since. I love the excitement and variety that emergency medicine has to offer. I strongly believe in giving clients as many options as possible and working to find the best scenario for their particular situation. I am adamant that our hospitalized patients receive compassion, high quality medicine and are as comfortable as possible. It is not uncommon for me or my staff to be seen holding a nervous patient in our lap or feeding them by hand when they are recovering from an illness.
I travel as often as I am able and love anything outdoors. I also love experiencing new cultures. In my free time, I ride and compete with my horses as well as hike with my dogs. I also enjoy more relaxing endeavors such as gardening, house projects, and binge-watching true crime shows.
